In the Ogun State Economic Transformation Program (OGSTEP), the Ogun State government has finalized plans to engage 40,000 smallholder Farmers in Empowerment

About The Programme

The OGSTEP initiative is a five- time publicprivate cooperation with World Bank support that intends to help boost agricultural development, work creation, food security, and economic empowerment all through the state‘s 20 local government regions.

nevertheless, Dr. Dotun Sorunke, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, expressed this in Abeokuta at a one- day stakeholders’ engagement forum on the Agricultural Value Chain Development Process.

Also,Dr. Sorunke made sense of that the agriculture sector of OGSTEP was launched off by the State Governor,, Sovereign Dapo Abiodun, to increase private area cooperation in the state‘s economy and ameliorate smallholder farmers agricultural production and productivity.

In addition, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture,Dr. Angel Adelaja- Kuye, also spoke about how the project would achieve gender balance. Mrs. Mosun Owo-Odunsi,, Project Coordinator, was accompanied in her speech by Mr. Fatai Osunsanya, a Technical and Vocational Education and Training Specialist. In her speech,Mrs. Mosun Owo- Odunsi emphasized the significance of promoting industrialization by promoting agriculture in a business-friendly environment that would attract further private investors in agribusiness with guaranteed off-takers.

In the meantime, Dr.(Mrs.) Oluseyi Olugbire, Acting Project Manager for OGSTEP( Agric), stated in her presentation that OGSTEP would operate on a farmer per hectare basis, with the government providing finances and structure amenities similar as roads, irrigation systems, electrification, and storehouse installations that would be of great value to agricultural activities in the named areas.

Though farmers who grow maize, rice, cassava, sesame, soybean, horticulture, aquaculture, and poultry will benefit from the program, according to Olugbire.

Also, Alhaja Lola Kushimo, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ogun State Chapter, spoke on behalf of the farmers, praising the current administration’s efforts to improve farmers’ livelihoods.
